MB&L interns agreements/ accountabilities:

  • All interns are requested to commit to a 6 month internship period. Extension of this period is an option upon mutual agreement and when desired, extending the internships is encouraged and supported!

  • Internship work plans are co-designed by the individual interns and the HJC Founding Director. Therefore, interns are: 1) empowered to create work plans that excite them and meet their needs for learning and growth, and, 2) create timelines and deadlines for tasks that truly work for them.

  • If an intern cannot complete a task by the designated deadline, the expectation is that they will communicate this to their HJC contact as soon as possible and prior to the deadline. In a case such as this, we request the intern propose an alternative timeline and request whatever support they may require to complete the task – we are all here to learn together. To put disability justice into practice and prevent the overwhelm that often contributes to ‘ghosting’, needs for more time and/or support will be addressed with solidarity and care.

  • MB&L Interns are expected to meet via Zoom or phone with their HJC staff or member contact 1X per week in the 1st month of the internship. After this time, meetings can be on an as needed basis.

  • MB&L Interns are required to attend a bi-monthly RTC meeting (2 hours per month total). They may be tasked with note-taking and/or task follow-up for these meetings.
